In Johor Bahru, Malaysia, a little art studio is quietly turning everyday corners into soft, calming escapes. Founded by local artist Yatt, Yattlukis Studio is a celebration of pastel tones, cozy vibes and small details that feel like home.

From Architecture to Art
Yatt always loved art — she was the student who looked forward to art class and school competitions. Her creative path led her to architecture, which she practiced for almost seven years. It wasn’t until she moved to Johor Bahru and became a mother just before the pandemic that she found her way back to drawing. During Malaysia’s Movement Control Order (MCO), Yattlukis Studio was born.

“After becoming a mum just before Covid, I picked up drawing again during the MCO and that’s when Yattlukis Studio was born,” says Yatt.
A Soft Sanctuary
Inspired by nature, architecture and soft pastel palettes, Yatt’s illustrations have a whimsical, dreamy charm. Her works often include leafy tropical plants, rattan chairs, sleepy kampung cats, and cozy corners that feel like little sanctuaries.

“My work is inspired by nature, architecture and soft pastel tones, creating art that feels like a little sanctuary,” she shares.
How She Creates
Each piece begins with an idea or a feeling — sometimes it’s a memory of a cozy space, sometimes it’s as simple as a cute cat. Yatt sketches by hand or digitally and slowly layers in details like books, plants, and delicate colours. She mostly works in Procreate, enjoying the freedom it gives her to play with soft brushes and textures.
“It’s like building a tiny sanctuary with every piece and filling it with calm, wonder and a story to tell.”

Finding Balance
Balancing creative work and motherhood hasn’t always been easy for Yatt, and neither has trusting her own unique style. But she keeps her motivation close: creating meaningful art and sharing beauty with others.

“When someone tells me my art brings them peace or makes them smile, it truly means the world.”
A Touch of Home
Malaysia’s local flavour often sneaks into her work — tropical leaves, kampung vibes, and details like rattan furniture and sleepy cats give her art a sense of place and warmth.
What’s Next for Yattlukis Studio
Yatt’s biggest project this year is her first-ever Pop-Up Showcase at Tsutaya JB this July to August. Titled ‘Dreamy Pastel Sanctuary’, the showcase will be her largest art merch drop to date. She’s also dreaming of telling more stories through zines and illustrated books, collaborating with brands she loves, and maybe one day — having her own cozy studio space.
“Long term, I dream of having my own cozy studio space, collaborating with brands I love and seeing my art travel further, maybe even internationally!”

Advice for Aspiring Artists
“Take your time to explore and experiment. Your unique style will come when you stay true to what you love.”
She believes in the power of community too. For her, connecting with others keeps creativity flowing and motivation alive.
