Where can you shop fine art reproductions, give yourself a makeover, or kit yourself out with a top-of-the-line home sound system — all in one place? At Millenia Walk, of course!

With over 90 F&B, retail, and lifestyle stores, an emphasis on supporting local and regional brands, and collaborations with prominent international artists, the mall is establishing itself as a unique arts-meets-lifestyle destination in the heart of the city. It boasts not only some noteworthy architectural features and public art — including structures designed by Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate Philip Johnson and a showstopping Sculpture Plaza by Pop Art icon Roy Lichtenstein — but also a plethora of businesses with passionate founders and fascinating backstories.

Whether you’re looking for a fresh haircut or the perfect gift for someone special, here are five stores to check out on your next visit to Millenia Walk:

1. Museum Art & Co: The museum gift shop of your dreams

It’s a tall order to stand out in Singapore’s crowded retail scene, but Museum Art & Co has a unique proposition — it’s a one-stop shop for products from some of the world’s biggest museums. Founded by husband-and-wife team Christoph and April, the store partners with art houses and institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, the Louvre, and the Musee D’Orsay to stock a dazzling array of high-quality reproductions, publications, merchandise, and more.

Christoph, who first cut his teeth in the jewellery trade, tells me that the business emerged from a passion for art and a desire to help Singaporeans appreciate it more. He sees interactions with customers as a two-way street where both parties can learn from each other.

“Anything to do with museums is about interactive learning. The scope is a lot bigger than just retail.”

In the colourful and inviting store, flanked by a small gallery space, customers can browse everything from art-themed puzzles to limited-edition statement jewellery inspired by famous paintings and artefacts. Among the products on offer are high-quality fine art reproductions, complete with handcrafted Italian frames and museum-grade glass that ensures UV protection and minimal glare.

To ensure a fresh shopping experience on each visit, Chris regularly updates the store’s inventory, and even sources hard-to-get merchandise and catalogues from special exhibitions overseas.

Integrating art with everyday life, Museum Art & Co is a great place to treat yourself to something beautiful or pick out a present for an art-loving friend or two.

2. Be Salon: Express yourself through style

Located on Millenia Walk’s second floor, Be Salon is a cosy, brightly lit space decked out with neat rows of styling chairs and earthy warm taupe walls. The award-winning salon was founded in 2017 by senior director Sham Adam, who has more than 24 years of experience in the hairstyling industry.

Today, Sham helms a team of over 30 stylists and technicians across two branches, most of whom have a decade or more of experience under their belts. Hailing from places including Singapore, Korea, and Taiwan, team members are carefully selected for their expertise, creativity, and ability to deliver exceptional service.

And, even from a short conversation with Sham, it’s clear just how seriously the Be Salon team takes the craft of hairstyling. Here, a haircut is more than simple maintenance — it’s an opportunity to express yourself or even completely reinvent your style.

Hence, personalised consultation is key to the salon’s approach. Upon booking an appointment, each customer is requested to fill in a questionnaire — allowing the stylist to design a hairstyle according to their needs.

Besides working hard to keep up with the latest trends (drawing inspiration from high fashion runways, social media, and even art and architecture) the stylists allow each client’s habits, line of work, and personal style to inform their styling decisions. But at the same time, the team doesn’t shy away from nudging clients out of their comfort zones. As Sham explains, “I need to be able to say, ‘You’ve had the same image for quite some time … let’s do something different.’”

If this seems like an unorthodox approach, it’s one that has worked. Sham estimates that the vast majority of his clients are long-term regulars, some of whom have been under his care for decades. The stylist-client relationships built over time enable Be Salon’s customers to step out feeling like their best, most confident selves.

“[Hair is a form of] self-expression,” says Sham. “I feel that a stylist’s job is to bring that to clients.” So, whether you’re going for a classic look or something more out there, Be Salon’s stylists can help bring your vision to life.

Looking to upgrade your at-home listening experience? Look no further than Absolute Sound, an audio equipment store nestled on Millenia Walk’s first floor. Since 1992, the company has been curating a symphony of the world’s finest audio brands — think handcrafted Sonus Faber speakers from Italy, the precision of LINN electronics from England, the German engineering of AVM, and much more.

If you’re an audiophile, you’ll appreciate the company’s extensive range of products — from wireless speakers to all-in-one stereo systems — that promise accurate audio reproduction for your favourite songs and albums, allowing you to experience the pure, unadulterated joy of high-fidelity sound.

But beyond providing equipment, Absolute Sound also crafts bespoke audio experiences for homes and businesses. If you’re ready to build your dream home theatre, their experts will guide you and work with your space, budget, aesthetic tastes, and listening preferences — not just selling you gear, but empowering you to truly hear the difference.

4. HULS Gallery: Indulge in Japanese craftsmanship

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, stepping into HULS Gallery’s Millenia Walk branch feels like entering an oasis of calm. The elegant, minimalist space is stocked with artisan products from across Japan, ranging from delicate ceramics and glassware to candles dyed with vibrant plant pigments. And the products are labelled with information on their artists or prefectures of origin, reflecting the company’s commitment to celebrating Japan’s rich artistic traditions and independent craftsmen.

With outposts in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore, HULS Gallery was founded in 2017 with the goal of bringing Japanese crafts (kogei) to new audiences. Founder Yusuke Shibata personally connects with artists and visits their studios to curate a selection of “modern-yet-traditional” pieces that update Japan’s craft heritage for the 21st century. The gallery’s “Roots & Touch” philosophy emphasises the unique local context from which each product emerges, while encouraging customers to handle and experience the pieces for themselves.

Whether you’re in search of calming scents, quality tea, or stunning dishware, HULS Gallery is an ideal stop to discover new Japanese brands and add a subtle touch of luxury to each day. Says a spokesperson for the company: “Beyond the gallery, we hope that our customers will experience the beauty of utility in their daily lives. Each handcrafted item is designed not only to be visually appealing but also to bring comfort, ease, and a deeper sense of connection to the objects they use.”

5. Eyes@Work: “Frames to see and be seen”

Walk through the doors of Eyes@Work, and you’ll soon realise this is no ordinary optical store. From the zany interior decor to the rows and rows of unconventional frames, the shop is filled with the larger-than-life personality and quirk of founder Ng Moh Lee — making it the place to go if you’re looking for statement eyewear to stand out at your next social event or gallery opening.

When Moh Lee first entered the optical business in 1985, it was just a job, but she soon discovered a passion for helping people become their most fashionable selves. She’s now been running her own business Eyes@Work for almost 30 years, with loyal customers that have stayed with her for nearly as long.

Prioritising both quality and fun, Eyes@Work stocks a variety of international brands including Theo (Belgium), purveyor of eccentric, experimental frames; Sabine Be (France), known for a colourful and playful style; and Kuboraum (Germany), which offers bold, mask-like designs. Although the store also carries luxury brands like Gucci and Saint Laurent, Moh Lee notes that she carefully curates the selection, eschewing cookie-cutter products. She and her team work with customers to find eyewear that suits them, while also encouraging them to experiment outside of their comfort zones. “If you never try,” she says, confidently sporting a pair of bold asymmetrical glasses, “you’ll never know.”

No matter whether you’re drawn towards bejewelled frames, a dramatic cat-eye shape, or an oversized ’70s style, the Eyes@Work team can help you find a signature piece that will have others giving you a second look. “We try to make it a [kind of] fashion instead of just something to correct your eyesight,” Moh Lee explains. “We always feel that if you have to wear it, you can flaunt it as well.”
